RURAL AMERICA & AGRICULTURE

We Believe:

Rural America is the backbone of the nation. Long before the rise of sprawling cities, global corporations, and federal bureaucracies, the American countryside sustained the nation through its farms, forests, ranches, and small towns. Rural communities embody the values that shaped America’s identity: hard work, self reliance, neighborliness, faith, and a deep connection to the land. These communities feed the nation, steward its natural resources, and preserve the cultural traditions that have defined American life for generations.

We affirm that the strength of the United States depends upon the strength of its rural communities. When rural America thrives, the nation is secure, independent, and stable. When rural America is weakened, through economic neglect, overregulation, land loss, or cultural erosion, the entire nation suffers. A country that cannot sustain its own food supply, maintain its own farmland, or support its rural families cannot remain sovereign.

We believe that rural America must be protected, supported, and empowered, not ignored, exploited, or regulated into decline. Agriculture is not merely an industry; it is a way of life, a cultural inheritance, and a pillar of national security.

PLANK 1: Defend the Rural Way of Life

Rural communities are more than geographic regions; they are cultural strongholds that preserve the values upon which America was built. These communities maintain traditions of family, faith, craftsmanship, and stewardship that urban centers often lose. Yet rural America has been marginalized by policymakers who neither understand nor respect the people who live closest to the land. For decades, federal agencies, corporate interests, and urban-centered political movements have imposed policies that undermine rural livelihoods. Regulations crafted in distant cities rarely reflect the realities of farming, ranching, forestry, or small-town life. Rural Americans are too often treated as an afterthought, or worse, as obstacles to ideological agendas.

We affirm that rural America deserves representation, respect, and policies that strengthen, not weaken, its communities. A nation that forgets its rural roots forgets its identity.

PLANK 2: Protect Family Farms and Local Agriculture

Family farms are the heart of rural America. They represent generations of knowledge, sacrifice, and stewardship. Yet these farms are disappearing at an alarming rate due to a combination of economic and political pressures. Corporate consolidation has allowed multinational agribusinesses to acquire vast tracts of farmland, pushing small farmers out of the market. Rising land prices make it nearly impossible for young families to enter agriculture. Burdensome regulations increase costs and reduce flexibility, while unfair trade practices expose American farmers to foreign competition that does not operate under the same standards.

Foreign ownership of farmland has also become a growing concern, as entities with no loyalty to American communities acquire land that once supported local families. Population driven development pressure further reduces available farmland, replacing fields with subdivisions and commercial sprawl.

We affirm that America must protect its family farms, preserve local agriculture, and ensure that food production remains in the hands of the people, not corporations or foreign interests. A decentralized agricultural system is essential to national resilience, food security, and cultural continuity.

PLANK 3: Stop the Loss of Farmland and Rural Landscapes

The United States is losing farmland at a rate that threatens its long term stability. Millions of acres of cropland, pasture, and open space are being consumed by development each decade. This loss is driven largely by population growth, urban expansion, and the need to house an ever increasing population. When farmland is paved over, it is gone forever. The nation cannot replace the soil, the ecosystems, or the agricultural capacity that is lost.

As cropland shrinks and population grows, the pressure on America’s food supply intensifies. The loss of farmland also destroys wildlife habitat, reduces water absorption, increases runoff, and contributes to environmental degradation. Rural landscapes, once the pride of the nation, are being replaced by endless sprawl.

We affirm that protecting farmland is a matter of national security. A nation that cannot feed itself cannot remain independent. Rural land must be preserved, not sacrificed to unchecked development or short term profit.

PLANK 4: Oppose Federal Overreach in Agriculture

Farmers and ranchers face an ever expanding web of federal regulations that restrict land use, water access, grazing rights, and traditional agricultural practices. Agencies such as the EPA, USDA, and Bureau of Land Management often impose rules crafted by bureaucrats who have never worked the land and do not understand the realities of rural life. These regulations increase costs, reduce productivity, and punish small farmers who lack the resources to navigate complex compliance requirements.

Meanwhile, large corporations often benefit from exemptions, subsidies, or regulatory structures that favor centralized production over local agriculture. Federal overreach undermines local autonomy, weakens rural economies, and erodes the independence of the American farmer.

We affirm that agricultural policy must be shaped by those who work the land, not by distant bureaucracies or international organizations. Federal overreach must be rolled back, and local control must be restored.

PLANK 5: Protect Rural Infrastructure and Essential Services

Rural communities are often neglected when it comes to infrastructure investment. Roads and bridges deteriorate without repair. Broadband access remains limited, hindering education, commerce, and communication. Healthcare facilities close or consolidate, forcing families to travel long distances for basic services. Emergency response times increase as rural departments struggle with limited funding and staffing.

This neglect harms families, weakens local economies, and accelerates the decline of small towns. A nation that relies on rural communities for food, energy, and natural resources must invest in their well being.

We affirm that rural America deserves equal access to infrastructure, healthcare, and essential services. Supporting rural communities is not charity, it is a national necessity.

PLANK 6: Strengthen Local Food Systems and Regional Self‑Sufficiency

Local and regional food networks are essential to national resilience. When food production is concentrated in a few corporate facilities or distant supply chains, the nation becomes vulnerable to contamination, supply chain disruptions, foreign influence, and economic manipulation. Strengthening local food systems ensures that communities can feed themselves even in times of crisis.

Local agriculture supports small farmers, reduces dependence on global markets, and keeps food production rooted in American soil. It also strengthens community ties, preserves rural culture, and ensures that food remains fresh, safe, and accessible.

We affirm that food security begins at home. Local agriculture must be supported, protected, and expanded.

PLANK 7: Data Centers, Rural Land, and Environmental Stewardship

Rural America is increasingly targeted by large technology corporations seeking cheap land, abundant water, and access to electrical infrastructure for massive data center complexes. These facilities are often presented as “clean” or “low impact,” but the reality is far different. Data centers consume extraordinary amounts of electricity, strain local water supplies, and place heavy burdens on rural communities that receive little long term benefit in return.

The Strain on Rural Water and Natural Resources Modern data centers require millions of gallons of water per day for cooling. In rural regions where agriculture, livestock, and families depend on stable water access, this level of consumption threatens wells, aquifers, and streams. Water that once sustained farms and communities is diverted to cool servers for global corporations. This is not stewardship; it is exploitation of rural resources for urban and international benefit.

Massive Electrical Demand and Grid Instability Data centers are among the largest single consumers of electricity in the modern economy. Their demand can overwhelm rural electrical grids, forcing utilities to raise rates on local residents and farmers. In some regions, data center expansion has required new substations, transmission lines, and infrastructure upgrades, costs that are often passed on to the community rather than the corporations that caused the strain.

A nation that allows its rural electrical capacity to be consumed by foreign owned or multinational data operations risks both local stability and national security.

Land Use, Zoning Pressure, and Loss of Rural Character Data centers require vast tracts of land, often displacing farmland, forests, and open space. Corporations frequently pressure county governments to rezone agricultural land for industrial use, promising jobs that rarely materialize. Once built, these facilities contribute little to the local economy, employ few people, and permanently alter the rural landscape.

Rural America should not be sacrificed to serve the digital appetites of distant cities or global corporations.

Environmental Impact Hidden Behind “Green” Branding Although marketed as environmentally friendly, data centers generate enormous carbon footprints due to their energy consumption. Their construction requires massive amounts of concrete, steel, and industrial materials. Their operation depends on constant cooling, backup generators, and high voltage infrastructure. The environmental cost is real, even if it is hidden behind corporate public relations campaigns.

Foreign Ownership and National Security Concerns Some data centers are owned or financed by foreign corporations, raising concerns about data security, land control, and critical infrastructure vulnerability. Allowing foreign entities to control large portions of America’s digital backbone, especially in rural areas with limited oversight, is a strategic risk that must be addressed.

Protecting Rural Communities and American Sovereignty Rural America should not be treated as a dumping ground for resource intensive infrastructure that benefits outsiders more than local residents. Protecting rural land, water, and electrical stability requires:

• strict limits on water usage

• transparency in ownership and financing

• zoning protections for farmland and open space

• environmental impact assessments

• restrictions on foreign owned data infrastructure

• prioritizing local needs over corporate demands

• ensuring that rural communities are not forced to subsidize corporate utilities

A nation that values its land and its people must ensure that rural resources are preserved for future generations, not consumed by corporations seeking cheap operating costs.

PLANK 8: Preserve the Cultural and Spiritual Heritage of Rural America

Rural life is not merely economic; it is cultural and spiritual. The land shapes the character of the people who work it. Rural communities preserve traditions of faith, family, craftsmanship, and neighborly responsibility that are essential to the nation’s moral foundation. These traditions are threatened by cultural homogenization, urban-centered political agendas, economic pressures that drive young people away, and the erosion of local institutions.

We affirm that the cultural heritage of rural America must be preserved. A nation that loses its rural character loses its soul.

We Believe: Rural America is the backbone of the nation.
